Information Technology in Crisis – Three Priorities For IT in 2010

Authority, as I often like to say, is the number 1 factor club nothing that accounts for organisational success. My own personal organization relies seriously on engineering for its outcomes and its success. It would be true to say that also 15 years back it would be hard to conceive of how my organization could have worked and functioned without the fantastic scientific innovations of the final twenty years. So do I love engineering? You guess! And however I feel too that engineering is becoming much too widely accepted without the scrutiny and critical evaluation that properly goes to a leader’s function (or one that the first choice could and should commission). Yea, just across the corner. As I claimed before, that belief has been planning on for 2 hundred years, and it is just a ‘belief’ – in the feeling that it doesn’t have more substance than a dream. In several aspects the Twentieth Century was probably the most horrifying century in the whole record of the entire world – it’s hard today to assume it probably in the comfort of our American armchairs – and engineering performed its complete part in making it so horrifying: the guns of World War One, the gas chambers of World War 2, the nuclear bombs, the napalm and so it goes on.

Hence it’s that management is all about discrimination: the discrimination of a few ideas; of not acknowledging the prevailing wisdom and contemporary cant that passes for thought but is merely publication fodder; of complicated the forces of orthodoxy who’re touch by touch (and you can state, byte by byte) enslaving the world. We truly need leaders who utilize engineering with respect to the people to inspire them. So we are back once again to a essential difference that numerous overlook who see engineering as being an endless ‘good’: engineering is great when it truly serves the fascination of all persons, and engineering is bad when it does the contrary – when dictators, plutocrats, oligarchs, ego-driven CEOs and MDs utilize it to use the final farthing out of people.
